My Teaching Philosophy
As an educator, I find it important to identify and analyze my core values in regards to teaching. My current focus is to create a teaching environment and classroom culture that focuses on creativity, equity, and growth. When my students are creating artwork, I want to encourage an art-making space similar (in some ways) to an adult studio. Specifically, I want to create a space where students feel comfortable sharing their artwork in progress with one another, as well as sharing ideas, techniques, stories, anything that they feel the need to share with one another in regard to their art-making. I want to create a space where students feel comfortable encouraging one another as they explore making art together. I will work to foster a learning mindset where students can view mistakes or failure to achieve their goals as an opportunity to identify how they can use their strengths to better approach unfamiliar situations in the future. Furthermore, my personal learning journey is one that will never end. I will always be actively seeking out opportunities to further my own education for the benefit of my students.
